What does the trailer weigh with no horses and tack, around 14000#? You are talking about 41' total length with 22' living quarters, fresh water, gray water, black water tanks along with everything else in the LQ. What is a 2001 3500 Dodge rated to tow? You got a 3.55, 3.73, 4.10 axle ratio? Mountains to cross? Just something to think about.

I would find out how much the trailer weighs empty and go from there. My trailer is 32' floor and about 41' overall length, weighs 14k+ empty. I would think the trailer you're talking about is a little much for a 1 ton, not that it won't pull it ok, it just might not be up to stopping it.

I'm sorry I thought maybe we were not understanding each other properly that's why I asked about the shortwall, you don't here about many that big (wow)! That is a whole new ball game, like they stated above I would get the trailer weight +tongue weight and what your truck is rated at.That is a good place to start.I would also check your floor length,my trailer is 28ft and it is a 3 horse with a 13 ft short wall.

Have you pulled it loaded with a weeks worth of gear, tanks full and three grown horses? Lets us know after that trip. Why the air bags? Not enough truck, or have you had some of the leaf springs removed and using the bags for better ride.

It may pull it just fine, but that isn't the issue. I have a 3 horse all aluminum trailer with 14SW lq, a 1 ton dually, with 3 horses, water and hay I am barely under the legal limit.

I looked up 22ft L/Q and found one,(i want one shhh don't tell my wife) enjoy your trailer i'm sure you deserve it.I could load just about any pickup/horse trailer to the gills and it would be overloaded, use your head and make sure everything is in good working order and you will be fine.
