My daughter just took a job at a camp where she is the new "barn manager/wrangler.  Their budget for purchasing new equipment etc is quite low, so we were thinking of making rope halters and leads and even possibly even teaching the skill to interested campers (mostly kids/sometimes families).  Anyone have a how-to book you're willing to part with?  I'd be willing to buy it from you!

She will also be trying to replace other equipment.  If you clean out your tack room and find things you no longer use, and it is in relatively good condition, please consider a donation. She is particularly interested in synthetic saddles.  If you wish to donate, please contact me for all the details.

BTW, I haven't visited the forums in quite a while!  Hope everyone has had a very pleasant riding season!  I've enjoyed riding near home but, sadly, managed only 1 campout!Elaine

ps

This camp is a christian ministry here in NW lower peninsula of Michigan.

Thanks.

Try this web site for learning to tie your own halter.  Good Luck to your daughter.

Thank you Loveduffy and Z71 for your replies.  I will visit the web address you suggest Z71.  I don't know of any barn in the area to contact, but I am a member of a riding club and I intend to let them know.  Our 4-H clubs are an unlikely source of excess equipment!

Gosh, I used to make them a few years back. Alot of trail clubs bought them from me for year end awards and raffles. They are so easy to make once you learn how to make them. My hands are so arthritic now that I can't even make them for myself . I found my instructions in them online through Western Horseman, of course I had to order the one magazine with the directions in them, it was on from a few years back.

I have a VHS video, me and a freind was going to make and sell. If I can dig it up I"ll make a copy and send it to you. but you pay the shipping. you must use solid core rope, it takes about 22 feet of rope. and until you get the hang of it. it will test your patience.

Thanks!  Thats a great offer, HConley.  I learn best by watching so a video would be terrific!

I'll be happy to pay shipping.  Just say the word.

You'll find you have a message in your in-box, Hank.  Thanks for looking that up for me!
