I have noticed that the back of the Hart does not have a very big "rubber step" at the back of the door, so that if the horse doesn't step out right, they can scrape their legs on the ridge of the door. Actually that has happened already to one of my horses, but I saw this as a potential problem even before this happened to my horse. If you look at the Elite and 4-Star, they have a much bigger rubber ridge, and it is impossible for a horse to skin their legs on this type.
Has anyone else had this happen to their horse with this trailer. Am I the only one concerned about this?
Is there something I can do about this. I have a step kind, not a ramp, as I do not like the ramps either. Had horses go off the sides of these enuf times.

Haven't had an issue with mine. Have had it for 2 years now. I've had the horses step on the rubber bumper and their foot kind slides of of that but I've never had them scrape their legs on the door. Our Hart seems to be lower to the ground than our last trailer. Had a horse my wife was trying out actually bend the door channel on the butt side jumping in the trailer. He caught with his hip and it took out a good chunk of his hide (he was not a good loader but after hauling him for a month and working with him we had him stepping in the trailer). That's the only thing we've had happen. I do get a bit concerned about them cutting themselves on the bracket that the butt bar locks into when they are backing out but I have never had a problem with it yet.

We have sold Hart trailers for years. This has never been mentioned as a problem. In recent years Hart has recessed the butt bar into the rear tack wall in some models. The bracket on the other end is behind the rear door frame, thus not where a horse can contact it.

the rubber bumper is much smaller than the ones in other trailers. at least in mine which is a recent model. I think it would be almost impossible for a horse to step on it the way it is set up because it is so small. there is a metal edge at the end of the trailer which is where my horse got hurt going out. Some of the other trailers have an angled edge and much larger rubber bumper. and its really impossible for a horse to scrape their legs the way this is set up. Harts are fantastic trailers, I love mine, this is the only thing i have an issue about. Looks at other trailers and you will see exactly what i mean. Its very obvious.

I have a 2005 medallion hart. A large bumper was purchased from hart,it is a heavy duty bumper. No problems can occur with this. Unfortunatly i have to sell my trailer. It is listed on here. Michele from mn. I love the hart brand!!!!
