I found this in a book and thought I'd share it.
Many readers who respond to the colorful and dynamic symbols of American Indian medicine may like to know how to determine their horse's ( and maybe their own) totem power animal. Simply find the birthday of your horse below and study the implications for a better relationship between you and your equine companion. Some people have given their horses a name based on the totem animal in order to increase its opportunity to achieve a better balance on the Earth Mother. Remember, to the Native Americans all life is one-and your horse may receive energy from a power symbol just as much as you can.
The Red Hawk-March 19 to April 19
Those born under the Native American zodiacal sign of the Red Hawk are likely to be adventurous and assertive. They cherish a desire to be free, and those closest to them may sometimes consider them a bit headstrong.
The Beaver-April 20 to May 20
Those of the Beaver sign are generally blessed with good health. They cherish peace and security, and they are thought by all to be loyal and stable.
The Deer-May 21 to June 21
Clever and talented entities are found under the sign of the Deer. Your Deer horse will exhibit a generally positive disposition and will sometimes appear to be a creature of perpetual motion.
The Brown Flicker-June 22 to July 21
Entities born under this sign have a strong nesting instinct and are usually deemed to be good parents. Brown Flicker beings love peace and quiet and seek to avoid serious conflicts.
The Sturgeon-July 22 to August 21
Sturgeon beings have a great ability to teach others. They may be considered a bit domineering, but they generally bring a positive approach to every problem.
The Bear-August 22 to September 22
Entities born under this sign of the Native American zodiac are usually slow, cautious, and quiet. Your horse companion born under the sign of the Bear is problably a no-nonsense animal that seems to be able to detect insincerity in others.
The Raven-September 23 to Oct 22
Raven beings are sociable and energetic, full of nervous energy and fluctuating moods. They are generally very flexible and adapt well to new environments and circumstances.
The Snake-October 23 to November 21
Charismatic but often difficult to comprehend, Snake entities often present a problem to those around them. Beings born under the sign of the Snake may hide a deceptive nature behind a charming exterior.
The Elk-November 22 to December 21
Elk beings are competitive and athletic, but they are also patient and kind. Entities born under the sign of the Elk enjoy a change of scene every now and then-and cherish a strong independent streak.
The Snow Goose-December 22 to January 20
If your horse companion was born under the sign of the Snow Goose, you have a friend that is content to stay at your side and that generally shows little interest in any dramatic alterations of the daily routine. Far from sluggish, however, the creature born under the sign of the Snow Goose has great stamina.
The Otter-January 21, to February 18
Otter beings are often regarded as unpredictable and mercurial. If your horse was born under the sign of the Otter, you will have a companion that will generally be good-natured and a loyal friend.
The Cougar-February 19 to March 18
Cougar beings are mystical. You will probably experience some fascinating telepathic link with your Cougar horse. Watch your tone of voice and your nonverbal communication as well, for those born under this sign are very sensitive and easily hurt by disapproval or rejection.

Thank you for the information. I will be thinking about birthdays when I breed my horse. Also my horse is either The Snake or The Red Hawk. Since she is a throughbred I figure The Red Hawk.
