I have this idea of converting a dolly into a rolling saddle rack using a standard dolly and some collapsible saddle wall stands. I want it to carry 2 or 3 saddles. Any one of you already done this? I would think it'd be cheaper than the store bought ones. Ideas? Pics?

Only issue I see is the hazard of the whole affair to tip over if the smallish dolly caster wheels hit a snag or floor joint. The saddles will cause the rolling rack to be very top heavy.

Thought about the same thing. Tried some different things and found that by the time you buy a dolly, upgrade the wheels per previous poster, buy the saddle racks, and buy the spare metal to brace it all you have accomplished two things. 1) You spent more than the nice powder-coated factory rack would have cost; and, 2) the thing will weigh so much that it would cause most people to want a one-ton, dually, diesel, with a gooseneck utility trailer to haul it around.
My supposed portable saddle rack is now a rolling permanent fixture in my tack room.

Barry, I guess you answered my question. How many times have all of us ended up spending the extra dollar when our intentions were to save it!? Thanks for your input....I guess I'll bite the bullet and buy one.

We collapse the back tack down alot because we alternate using the horse trailer between hauling horses and then hauling our motorcycles on trips. The rear saddle rack is a pain to remove AND it would be nice to roll it out at the horse shows so I could step up into the rear tack for my tack and supplies. That way everything would remain together AND organized. Ebay had some w/shipping for about $75.00. That's not bad....just always thinking for the most economical! Thanks for the hints guys! PS...my saddles can't go up front because I finished it out in a nice weekend package and the fridge now sits in the way. AND I really would like to keep them toward the back of the trailer.
