I have a 1995 F250 3/4 ton with a straight-six. The only weight ratings I can find are in the door jamb. The GVWR is 6,600. Can anyone tell me how much weight I can SAFELY tow? I would like to get a 12' bumper-pull stock trailer and the range of weights is between 1,600 and around 3,500. I would be hauling two horses locally. Should I worry about getting a trailer that is too light, such as the 1,600 pound one? Thanks,

Sheri

Your owners manual should have a section on towing. It would at least give you an idea, based on your truck weight, of about what you can tow.

I forgot to mention that I could not find the owner's manual...I also have not been able to find where to purchase one. I contacted Ford and they're supposed to get back with me, but I haven't heard from them.

Try these links for starters, it just takes a minute to search the net.

Go to this site and look up your truck. It will tell you the maximum tow values.

Be sure to check the hitch on the back of your truck too to see if it is capable for weights over 5000 ... sometimes not.

With a GVWR of 6600... you aren't going to have a large weight allowance for towing.

Your drive train and suspension will easily handle this load.  If you don't want to go real fast, your straight 6 (I'm assuming a 300) will do this job, just don't try to run it too fast and overheat.  I pulled a two horse stidham and 2 horses with a Ford 150 and 300-6 in Montana at about 5000 feet.

I agree with flintspr...plenty of chassis to handle a fair tow. IMHO your weakest link is the tranny....make sure it has a cooler! The Ford 300six is one good ol motor!

Thanks everyone. It was difficult to even get an idea of how much weight I could safely tow due to the truck's make up (the motor is great!). Now I'm fairly comfortable with buying the stock trailer I really wanted that weighs 3,000 pounds empty.
