I am sure you are all tired of all my questions, but some of these are to help the new people out there that are browsing and looking at the trailers and the posts made and also to help me!  :)

What are some of the pros and cons of YOUR trailer.  Give examples if you can.

Mine:

Dressing room door on Drivers side - Love this feature because I am a normally a single hauler, and it allows me to get out of the drivers side and not have to cross the vehicle/trailer to get something out.  I normally park where attendants in the gas station can see me get in and out of the trailer for safety at night, and if I have to get into the DR for something, it is on the same side normally visable!

Con of my trailer is the solid swing door - It is nice because it is a "barrier" if you have a hard loader, but it is also a pain if the wind is blowing, it tends to blow it shut when you are loading.  It is also not good if it swings shut and you are in the trailer, I have no access out of it.  Not happened yet, but I am waiting for the day and whoever lets me out, I am sure will never let me live that down!  :

I have a Liberty Softtouch (prior to the company's purchase by Travalong). Pros: Even though it is only a 2 horse, I still have a first horse escape door. At the time I bought it, most companies were not making separate grill/drop downs. The aluminum has held up to the horse from hell who pitched and pawed when first (2-3 years worth!) trailering. All aluminum floor, extremely well-braced. Again, many of these things were not standard when I bought the trailer. Cons: narrow running boards-no place to stand when tying horses, ties placed way too high for my 5'6" to reach comfortably. Door locks did not hold up to Kansas winds, but would any type? Nose slopes both inward and down at front, severely limiting head space in the gooseneck for sleeping.

If I hadn't had them take 2 feet out of the dressing room (I know, I know, but I was pulling with a Dakota at the time) I wouldn't even consider getting another trailer.

2H BP DR Slant

Pros:  7'9" height - great for tall horses

Cons:  7'9" height - with my first truck (F150) I really noticed the height when pulling against the wind, with my new truck (2500) it's not an issue

Pros:  In DR:  8 hook bridle rack, 3 blanket bars, 3 brush trays, a clothes type hanger area, & 1 saddle rack.  I can carry lots of stuff high off the floor to give more floor space.   The rear tack also has 5 bridle hooks and 2 saddle racks, but I prefer the DR.

Cons:  seems like I can fill the floor space too with stuff (I camp alot)

Pros:  Rumber floor, drop down windows, fiberglass composite structure which is very thick, so it's very strong, yet cooler in the summer, also have 4 ceiling vents & 2 fans.

Cons:  wish I had gotten a GN instead and will eventually.

Old Trailer: 2H BP Straight Load with Under Manger Tack Storage and Escape Doors on both sides

Pros: Light trailer - easy to pull and maneuver. Good ventilation with lots of windows (2 front, 2 side, and 2 back).

Cons: Under manger tack storage was a pain. Max of 2 saddles and you have to fold the fenders and stirrups under the saddle. Left very little room for anything else (buckets, water jug, first aid supplies, etc). Also, I did not like the escape doors. Although you need access to the horses, I saw on 2 or 3 different occasions horses contemplating going out those doors. Scared me to death. Mangers also didn't allow horses to drop head to clear nasal passage. One of my horses is small (14.3H).

My new trailer (on order) is a 2H GN Slant Load with Permanent Rear Tack, DR with 4' short wall, walk through door to horse area, boot box in DR, WERM flooring (a great invention), and extra bridle hooks, brush trays, and load lights. I am hoping there are only Pros to the trailer....no cons.

Tack/DR has a ramp, which is a pro for loading heavy trunks, but a Con if you ever want to close yourself in there - say to sleep, though I don't.
It could have been done both ways, with a slightly better design.

Jamco B/P
Con: Wire door straps need to be fussed with and don't hold very well.
I would LIKE to have the plunger/rubber_socket type of door holds and might put them on.
Outside fenders act as shelves and INVITE the placement of personal
items on themselves, e.g. pocket books. I might put a water tank on one of them and a tool box on the other to act as deterrants (-:
No consideration for the storage of WD Hitch spring bars when the trailer is parked.

Both: Pros: Really GOOD rubber mats on ramps, even when wet - see other posts.
Cons: No provision for carrying muck buckets, forks, shovels, etc., though this seems to be common to most horse trailers. No provision for carrying those HUGE blocks of wood that we seem to need to stop sinking into the muck or even ashphalt on hot days wherever we have to park. Water carrying issue is ignored, though that is handyman_addable.

There was an article in the USRider magazine a little while ago about the wisdom (or not) of carrying TWO spare tires and rims. Supposedly it is quite common to run over the same bits of whatever and trash both wheels on the same side, so maybe a 2nd spare wheel carrier could/should be on trailers - undecided.

FWIW, etc.

Older Sundowner 2-H Gooseneck, Thoroughbred Style, straight load. Love everything about it except the steps coming out of the Dressing room and escape doors. Too short, they're only about 3 inches wide. If we keep it, I'll add running boards to it next spring. Relatively minor complaint.

Looking at trailers, I like my running boards, that is one option I really want to see if I can get.  Even though it is a pain if your horse paws or stomps a fly while tied to it...  BUT I am so short, it helps me and also doubles as a bench!  :)

I have a 2000 Featherlite Stock/Combo trailer.

Pros: Has a nice tack/dressing room. With 3 saddle racks and like 8 bridle hooks. Plenty of room to put things in there. Able to remove tack area and all dividers to use as a open stock. Has a sliding door in the rear door. Makes it easy to just hop in to check on the horses. Has inside tie rings.

Cons: The running boards are narrow and hard to stand on to tie. Has no outside tie rings, so i have to stand on the running boards to tie to the stock vent on the top as theres only one row of stock vents. Has no escape door or roof vents.

Otherwise i love my trailer and it pulls really nice.

I've got a 2004 Gore two horse straight load gooseneck with a 6-ft dressing room, 7'6" tall.

Pros: I like the trailer because it's narrower than most and easy to handle on narrow windy roads. Gore does a great job with installing awnings on their trailers so you don't have to worry about ripping the awning when you open the dressing room door. It's got nice key-lock latches on the back doors and lightweight ramp so you can lift the ramp and latch the doors with one hand - nice when you've got a horse in the other hand.

Cons: They designed some sort of new-fangled adjustable butt bar. My old Gore trailer had a simple drop-pin and a sturdy butt bar. The "improvement" uses the same butt bar and pin arrangement but the divider side has a W shaped bracket so you can slide the bar to the low or high position. Not a bad idea but they use the same pin for both positions so it is now about 12" long and really un-wieldy. It's too long to balance it on the bracket while loading so you have to fumble with it after the butt bar goes up. It sticks in the receiver so you can't just drop it in and give the bar a shake to seat it and, worst of all .. when you go to pull it out, at the pin's highest point, the design of the wall traps your thumb between the pull ring and the wall. OUCH!

To be fair, I noticed that the '06 Gores are back with the short pin and the sales rep said that he would be happy to change mine out for free if I'm unhappy with it.

1999 Exiss 3H GN with weekender and midtack

Pro- Midtack. I have a small LQ so the midtack is great. Its useable area that I can use for whatever I want.

Con- the rear tack saddle rack cannot be swung or lowered. I am all of 5"2', so its tough for me to reach the first rack let alone the top one. If there was a ramp it would make it easier but there isn't.
