Look at each trailer and see what features YOU like.  Eash of us will have our preferences based up how we haul and what we do.

Look at stall dividers, slam latches, hinges on doors & windows, flooring, lights, tie rings, spare tire, built in battery, insulated roof or walls, extruded or smooth skin on outside, Hay racks, water tanks, feed bags, saddle racks.

There are so many things you may like that somebody else will hate. I like flush mounted lights inside and out, other like flood lights that they can pivot and aim. For me they get ripped off by low hanging trees in the forest. So I'll live with the lower light output of a flush light rather than replace broken lights all the time.

I leave my trailer at trailheads all the time while I ride. Usually with extra saddles in the trailer. Sometimes for a week at a time. So I lock everything up each time I leave.  Having 3-4 keys to lock up a trailer drives me crazy.  If you park on the farm and never lock the trailer who cares how many keys it takes.

I like jailbird dividers so my horses can see each other and it helps with the ventilation. Other like solid dividers. I rarely haul a strange horse. So my horses are very familair with each other and I don't any fighting in the trailer. But I do haul them 5-10 hours at times when I go out of state. So I want lots of air moving through the trailer in the summer at 100 degrees and I want to limit the air in the winter when it's 10degrees out.

You really need to decide what is important to you. Look at each and decide which trailer has more of the features that you would value. No sense paying for things you don't care about or having to add as extras after you bring the trailer home.

Top of the line = 4 star, C&C, Bloomer, Elite, Cimmaron

Good Trailers for a budjet = Cherokee, Featherlite, Sooner, Exiss

I just bought a 4 horse, Cherokee Invasion.  While its not top of the line, it is very nice, and will accomadate me and my horses.

Chris are you considering a GN or bumper pull? Enclosed or stock-type? with living quarters (LQ) or just a tack area?

Sometimes some brands of trailers are REALLY good in one particular style and not so good in another style.

There are a couple of books you might want to check out or buy... "Guide to Buying, Maintaining, and Servicing your Horse Trailer" by Neva & Tom Scheve; and "Guide to Trailering your Horse" by CHerry Hill.

These books give you some insight into size, configuration, materials, ramp versus step up, slant versus straight, etc.  Make a list of "must have" and a list of like to have...  determine what your budget is and go from there.

What size trailer are you thinking of getting?

3 horse slant, no LQ  Approx 20ft GN.  6ft SW dr rear tack. I think maybe the gvwr on the trailer is 15200 not sure of shipping weight. 7000# axles.

I too have recently been trailer shopping and there's a lot of good stuff out there. My 2 priorities were:

1. Safety and comfort for the horses

2. Features for my convenience

After looking at several manufacturers, I decided on a 4 Star. Their quality was very high and I have several friends who are 100% satisfied with their 4 Stars. It just seemed to me to be a lot more solidly constructed than some other brands I looked at. When it came down to price, there was very little difference with the features I wanted between 4 Star and many of the other brands.....many were much more expensive. I'm certainly not saying that everyone should own a 4 Star but it was the best option for me in both quality and features for the price I was willing to spend.
