We were stuck in a severe storm/tornado warning south of Joplin, Mo several years back... it was late night. We loaded our horses and parked our large rig at a "crescent" angle in the lowest spot we could find... we waited it out and were scared by high winds, hail, and hard rain... not to mention limbs falling and blowing... next time we will take horses down in a draw...

Do not ever use a trailer as a tornado shelter. If you are avoiding hail it would be acceptable but not ideal!
If you are stuck outside in a tornado lay in a low area, a ditch is best. Avoid trees, power lines and power poles, anything that attracts lightning.
Lay flat in the ditch face down and put something over your head to protect yourself from falling stuff and hail.
Best thing to do is go in a solid building and or head for the basement.
