you don;t say how many your are hauling but this said I like my largest one over or just in front of the axel.   If I am only hauling one he goes in the 3rd stall from the rear, we very seldom haul 4 but do haul 3 reg. and the front stall is empty.

I dont think it really matters with a gooseneck due to the design it is pretty hard to get too light in the pin, unless you have like an 8 horse trailer and only load 2 draft horses in the very back stall, that said I try to keep my heavier horses over the axles if i have to drive a pickup to keep the ride better in the truck. remember that horses are biased 60/40 heavier in the front.
