If it's steel, you'll have some rust preventative efforts to first accomplish before the paint is applied. Both the steel and aluminum trailers will then need a primer coating, preferably an epoxy product for the best longevity. Then you can use any automotive one or two part coatings, available at many automotive suppliers. These products are very good at resisting fading when exposed to UV rays, and can be mixed to any colour you want. If you want a good looking "keeper" for a long while, don't scrimp whilst using the least expensive products.

Rustolem does not need a primer, just rough it up and use acetone to remove oils and paint it on. However i would not recommend using it because it does not really harden that well, and will chip and scrape pretty easily, however it is very easy to touch up. I have painted several cars with it, if you google it there are tons of instructions
