I have a 2003 Exiss Event 3h with 8ft lq. I want to replace the total brake assembly on it. How do I know which size to get? What do I have to measure to get the right size? I figured with the age of the trailer it would be better to replace it all.

Generally, diameter of hub and width of shoe. Pull wheel and hub off axle.
Probably a Dexter assembly...should have numbers stamped on plate. Check Dexter website for verification. Change/repack bearings and seals while you are at it. Ebay has genuine Dexter brake assemblies for about $60. each. Don't use any Chinese knockoffs. There are right and left sides so order the correct ones. The site will also have installation instructions.

Get the axle rating off the data plate on the trailer. Brake assys are sold by axle rating sizes, and usually only involve two choices. Many 15" wheels are mounted on 3500# axles and use the 10 X 2.25 brakes. 16" wheels are used on larger 5200#, 6K#, and 7K axles and have the larger 12" x 2" brakes. The brakes can be purchased from Ebay"s various vendors. Buy the complete Dexter assys and enjoy the free shipping offered by several sources. A good value and exact replacement. Don't buy the Chinese copies.

I just did mine, had 7000 lb axles. Everything new from the backing plate out, onlly the axle tubes are original. Cost about 900 for the whole job. But well worth knowing it's all new while going down the road
