Hi there, I just recently purchased a 1996 Jamco trailer. The trailer is AWESOME until you get nearly to the roof- it was painted maroon to match the stripes but looks awful now. I prefer to strip the paint and have shiney aluminum and find a clear sealer (to prevent leaks) to put on it. How do you go about doing this? do you strip it or sand it? This trailer was also converted from a 4 horse to a 3 horse to allow more room in the LQ- how hard is it to make it a 4 horse again?

Stripping paint from aluminum is best done chemically. Stripping a trailer, one of your size, will be expensive and labour intensive. Bare aluminum has the same reflectivity and heat absorption as black. It heats up quickly.If the present paint is in good shape and not peeling or cracked, it would be less expensive and labour involved, to abrade the surface with a non-woven pad, clean, apply a primer and paint or add an elastomeric product. A white surface would reflect much of the possible heat absorption, and improve the overall appearance of the trailer.

The paint on it is chipping and peeling and it being maroon is making it look rusty it's the worst lookin part of the trailer. Luckily it does not fully cover the roof just where the roof start- I posted pics, white may be a good option.
