I know this has been addressed before, but I'm wondering if anyone is willing to give an update on any repairs or replacements of the roofs that were delaminating on the '03-'05 Cimarron trailers.  Cimarron corrected the issue in '06.  I am considering purchasing an '05 - with some hesitation.  I called Cimarron with the VIN and they said that this trailer does have one of the defective roofs but they had no service records of it being repaired.  It has a partially finished LQ with no ceiling.  I'm not sure if it ever had a ceiling but there is not one now.  I do not see any evidence of leaking in the trailer.

I really like the trailer otherwise but I am concerned.  Anyone have any experience with this or advice?

Thanks

If you look at the roof from the top, and look closely, if there is delamination happening, you should be able to see signs. If it is not delaminating, and you protect it from the sun, it should last a long time. Direct sunlight is what caused the delamination. I had one, and wound up having the roof replaced.

Fiberglass repairs can be made, that would return any lost strength due to delamination. The materials are not that expensive, probably less than an aluminum replacement, but labour charges by most businesses are large. If you could find a marine, RV or aircraft mechanic that moonlights, the whole job could be effected quite reasonably.

The roof should be closely inspected before any purchase is made. Having the inside open and no leaking is noted, will improve the odds of not finding any major damage. If the roof is not yet delaminated, it would be beneficial to paint the fiberglass, or coat it with an Elastomeric product. Either would stop any further degrading of the resin by UV damage.

For what it is worth regarding coating and seeing no further damage- Cimarron's "recall" involved having the roof coated with something. I know of trailers that were coated, and delaminated anyway.

FWIW again- I do not believe the roof is a standard fiberglass roof as Gard is thinking, but I may be mistaken.

Yes, the repair was a coating of Geobond which is to stop the UV rays from reaching the glue that holds the layers of the roof together - fiberglass/insulation/fiberglass. It was only these couple years that were affected. I have another Cimarron with the insulated roof and I absolutely love it. Makes a huge difference in the inside temperature of the trailer. Thanks for the replies, very helpful.
