Finally getting around to replace fender well clearance light on Cimarron. Blew tire and it took the light and pulled the wire out from the wire tap.

Wire starts at the header than goes down thru ~ 4' of 1"x2" vertical tubing. Tubing than meets up with horizontal 2"x2" at the top of the wheel wheel. Access is provided by 1/2" holes into each. Have 3 - 1/2" holes to go thru.

So far, I have tried the wire, thin steel wire, and a 1/8" fish tape cable.

Anybody have a tried and true method out there? I have used the twine, bag and vacuum method on underground wire and am wondering if I could get that to work somehow????

Thanks.

If pulling with a vacuum doesn't work possible pushing kite string or similar with an air compressor and blow nozzle . Tim

If there is a wire already in the chase, connect the new wire to its end with a tapered joint. Twisting and soldering the joint can make a smooth transition. The joint has to be strong; if it comes apart during the pull, you may be changing religions. Spray everything liberally with WD 40 or an equivalent, and pull the old wire from the other end, or the closest access point.

Nope, no wire. It ripped all of it out from the fender clearence light to the header junction tap.

I will try the vacuum method tonight...compressed air with string is interesting.

My concern is that with the horizontal framing, the air  will not be going to the right place...

Thanks.

I've had better luck with an air compressor and using a high air pressure, when compaired to a vacuum set up. You may find many chase leaks, and a low air volume with suction, won't draw the plug as well.

You may try extending the nozzle on the blow gun with small diameter tubing with a notch on the end to capture the string line with a parachute and once you fish through the first 2 holes throw the air to it and hopefully it will lift the line. Good luck! Jg

I would try to insert a pocket magnet up in the hole in the wheel well and then drop a very small nut down the channel from the top on some fishing line. Hopefully by moving the line around you could get the nut to the magnet and pull it through the holes.

When you get to the horizontal piece its hanging up? Used a ball chain like on a ceiling fan and a magnet. That has worked for me when I get hung up pulling wire.

You want TWO electrical fish tapes...one being worked from each end and hopefully hook them
