We have a 2002 Sooner trailer with living quarters and it is a pain stepping up into it  or stepping down out of it .The newer trailers have a nice aluminum step that folds up while traveling. Have any of you installed an aftermarket step? I sure would appreciate any information you would have.

thanks

We have both a fold down aluminum step and a two step molded plastic box . We use the molded plastic step for the LQ and it helps when a rock or stump is'nt around to help mounting the horses (wink)

The thing about adding a step to your trailer is I was told that you couldn't if it has a running board. I see that the trailer in the Cimmaron photo doesn't have one. Just this week, a friend took her trailer to an RV place to see about adding a step, and they told her that a fold down RV step wouldn't work because the trailer isn't high enough. He didn't mention the running board, but since it wouldn't work anyway, it was a moot point.
My trailer doesn't have a step, either. I just use a 2 step mounting block. It is perfect.
Someone ought to invent an aftermarket step for trailers with running boards!

I liked the step in the info Terry sent but as Linda said,it won't work on a trailer with a running board [as ours has].

We have been using the two step mounting block also. I would like a permanent step if there was one made.

thank you for your help

Randy

Our trailer is aluminum over a steel frame, and has running boards, my husband (who is asleep right now) mounted it to the supports under the trailer, if I remember right. Some of the more knowledgeable folks on here should be able to tell you how to do it. http://www.pplmotorhomes.com/parts/rv-steps/camper-steps.htm?utm_so...

Could a handy person modify this one to work?We use a step that I made from wood, and it is ok, but I worry that it could roll under your foot, and then break an ankle.http://www.pplmotorhomes.com/parts/rv-steps/camper-bumper-step.htm

Why don't you contact Sooner. Our old Hart trailer had running boardsand. We contacted Hart they sent the step and we took it to a fab shop and had it welded to the frame. Would be worth a call or e-mail.

Lots of folks use a crate or a two step step that they keep inside the door and put outside when they park. You may need something like this when you have running boards.

We have an Exiss trailer with running boards and a step that slides and locks into place. I think Sierra, the conversion company that fabricated the interior, may have added the step. A friend that bought the same type trailer without the interior did not have a step, and I have not seen one installed on a dressing room model of our trailer built during that era.

The step is welded to the frame under the running board and slides into place and locks fast when needed. It should be easily adaptable to other trailers with an aluminum frame. Mounting a steel step to an aluminum frame may cause future problems.

A simple folding aluminum step works well, only cost ~$30, takes up little room and is sturdy.

This is what I was looking for to use on my Sundowner, but they want nearly $300.00 for it!
