My holding tank straps seem to get rocks between the straps and tank so when the tank gets water it pushes against the rocks and has caused a leak. I removed the strap and plastic welded the hole. I can see this is going to be an ongoing issue with all of the rocks between the tank and straps. I called Sundowner and they said to make sure the  vent was clear so the tank didn't collapse when empty. I checked that and it was clear. I also tried to put in some foam tape to fill the gaps but that didn't seem to work as well as I thought and still have spaces for rocks to get in.

Any ideas? Maybe the tanks are just getting brittle? They are 12 years old. I did some internet searching and couldn't find any threads on this subject

Cold some foam pipe insulation provide a cushion between the strap and tank, as well as blocking any foreign obstacles from entering between?

I used some foam tape and it made it too tight in some areas as it is molded to the tanks and still loose in others. The RV store suggested a dirt skirt. Not sure if it would solve that or if I should make a skid plate of some sort. Thoughts?

You may want to consider using Eternabond tape over the straps. This should seal around the strap and keep debris from being wedged against your tank.

sounds strange but when I was building my LQ, I was worries about that and the straps rubbing a hole in the tank, so I used a sawzall and cut an old tire and put the tread between the tank and the strap, tread side toward the ground. The curve of the tire cupped the tank so noting could get in and it provided cushion too. I also took another longer strip and riveted it long way across the cross beam to act as a deflector for rocks kicking up so they wouldn't hit the tank.

Must be speaking of rocks from the truck. I am sure the holding tanks are in front of the trailer axles?
