We have developed an ice chunk in the fridge section. We keep the thermostat constant.

How does this happen and what can I do to prevent?

Fridge is a Norcold.

Thanks.

You will need to turn it off and let it defrost. Simply unload it, turn it off, and place towels below the coil to absorb the water as the ice melts. Depend on how much you open the door, the humidity in the area, what items are placed in it, etc will determine how often you will need to defrost it. You generally can let it get about half full of ice without any problems, but the less ice on the coil the more efficient it is.

I'm assuming that the fridge has a freezer and a fridge section and the fridge (medium temp part) has the ice block. If that is the case most have an air diverter to control how cold the freezer gets and how cold the fridge gets, if ice is forming your fridge is running to cold so turn the adjuster...usually located in the freezer... to make the freezer colder thus the fridge will get warmer. Also your temp control could be set to cold also. You really need a thermometer to check your temps.
If the ice is in the freezer section it needs defrosting, most have automatic defrost so you shouldn't see ice build up, could be your defrost system has malfunctioned,

I am not familiar with RV refrigerators having an automatic defrost cycle like most residential ones. All the ones I have seen in RVs are manual defrost.

It's the fridge section. We have a few weeks of 'home' time to do some fixing. I plan on defrosting the fridge. Freezer keeps a bag of ice and frozen frosty beverages frozen.

Thanks for all your help!
