We just got home from a week spent at Shawnee. We spent 6 days at Hayes Canyon Campgrounds and 2 at 34 Ranch. It was our first time to ride One Horse Gap. What a great week of riding. We rode 7 days and enjoyed every minute of it.Both campgrounds offer a lot of riding. It so hard to believe that when you ride Shawnee that you are still in Illinois can't wait for next time.

Love Shawnee, especially in the fall. Last year I went twice in October and then again in November. Actually, November is my favorite time to ride there since the leaves are down and you can see rock formations that are easily overlooked other months.
Now, if only I had a horse to ride since my Morab got injured down in TN last May. Still looking for a good trail Arab.

I'm a frequent camper at Hayes Canyon, I live only about 35 miles south of there. It's my favorite campground. A friend recently got a permanent campsite at 34 Ranch so I've been riding there quite a bit this yr too. I love the Shawnee!

Farmgirl,
I've been in touch with Susan in the last couple of months. Awhile back she had a gelding advertised that I wished I'd seen advertised sooner. Ashley Creek is located super close to a trailride I've camped at quite a few times. Susan is supposed to let me know when she gets a nice gelding. I'm also looking at a half sister to Quiz even though I deep down don't care for mares.
Tks for the info and let me know if you think of any other Arab or part Arab resources.

We have never camped at Bear Branch but I believe that you can't go wrong with Hayes. Great host, good trails and if you want you can rent their trailer to trailer to some other area. The bath house is clean and on Sundays they have Cowboy church if interested.

Almule...go to Hayes rather than Bear. I have been to both. Used to be a Bear Fan but the place has gone to heck the past several years. Hayes is much nicer and not built on a hill. Bear has a restaurant but you can still go to it from Hayes. The restaurant has gone down hill too, food not as good, menu changed, new people managing it instead of it being the campground owner.
