My horse always gets a black mark on her right hip from where she leans on the back wall in my slant load trailer. I have cleaned it with various products, but it still ends up making a black rub spot. Any ideas on how to clean the metal wall to avoid this?

Steel or aluminum? We use simple green to clean horse compartment in aluminum trailer. If your trailer is aluminim, your horse is getting oxidation on hip. This is common.You could add a hip pad your wall to solve this and would give your horse a more comfy ride.

I don't want to make my horse wear a sheet in hot weather. She already sweats a ton in the trailer. I wonder how easy/inexpensive adding a hip pad would be... It isn't THAT big of a problem- I just trail ride, so its not like I'm unloading at a show with a big black mark on her hip. I just thought I'd see if there's a quick easy fix.

Clean, then paint the aluminum with a clear coat. It'll wear off but the horse won't have a black mark. Recoat as required.

I trailer my horses several times/week - they either have marks on their butt or on the side of their hip, depending on which trailer they're in. Just my opinion, but it's easier to just shampoo and scrub the marks off the horses than to bother with painting and repainting the aluminum.

So, we went to pick up our new horse trailer and we notice that it's not we ordered. The dealership, Luft Trailer Sales, has had it for three weeks now with the invoice. Do you think they even bothered to verify it was right? Hell no! Their comment to us, "well we can sell it off the lot". Interpretation, your screwed and we don't care. I would highly suggest NEVER buying or doing business with this company. Family owned and inbreed for over 25 years. Do not ever buy anything from Luft Trailer Sales!

You can mask off the offending area, wash it down with muriatic acid to eliminate the oxidation, and apply an automotive clear coating paint. Rattle can paints are available for a few dollars at automotive parts stores.
