I have fulton 12000 lb jack on the front of my goose neck cow trailer. It is not raising or lowering the trailer. There is a cover on the top of the jack. I was able to get it off easy enough. The gears in the top of it look fine, and are turning fine. It must be something down lower in the jack. How in the world do you get down lower, and what is broken? Is it even fixable? Should I cut the jack off, and get a new one?

Sounds like the screw and nut may be stripped... I wonder if that top gear is welded to the screw, or does it have a key and keyway, set screw, etc....? Cut the jack off, and get a new one? Probably.

Single speed. I can't tell how the two are connected. The guy that had it borrowed said it collapsed right after he pulled out from under it
Since it "collapsed" I'll bet the nut is stripped. Likely the screw is damaged too. Instead of cutting off the jack. Look for the exact same jack or see if you can get Fulton parts. Then perform a transplant.
You'll save the paint and finish from welding heat.
