I have the standard Suburban 6 gallon water heater on my trailer, never used it becuase we have never camped. I have run it on propane to see that it works and now I am wondering if it is gas and electric? How would I know and if it is both does it turn on each time I am connected to my generator?

You need battery voltage to light it, gas or electric to run it. Any time your converter and battery swith is on, you should have B+ available to the igniter for starting the heater.

When you select your heater to on, and don't select a gas option, the heater if equipped, will use AC electric for its power source. This is one way you can trouble shoot the heater if it doesn't light off on gas.
Go on line and research your specific heater model for an opperator's manual. The model # can be found on a data plate, attached to the heater and is accessable through the service panel from the outside of the trailer.

no,not unless you are in a big hurry to get out the door,you can turn it on and drink some coffee or whatever,in a pretty short while,it's ready.Saves on propane,and,I don't really like having it on all PM anyway if there's no need.

I have that same model and I would say from the time you light it, walk back in the trailer and turn the water on, in about 2 minutes you will have hot water starting to make it to the faucet. Very quick.
