I recently bought a used trailer. The trailer has the normal wiring set up (break, lights etc.) and works fine with my truck.
It also has what I would call a direct battery connection. I'm not honestly sure what the real name for it is and of course I neglected to ask when I bought it. There are connectors on the trailer one for power (red) the other a ground (black). The red cable runs to the trailer batteries.
The connector cables (about the size of jumper cables) plug into the connector on the trailer and then I assume there would be a matching set on the truck. I was looking to buy a kit or something online so I could wire it up. But since I dont know what the correct name is, I'm not having much luck finding it.

If you want to go direct to the truck batteries, you will need an isolator (as described above) so you don't run your truck batteries down. From the isolator under the hood you will have to run a positive and negative cable to the rear of the truck, make sure it is fused and heavy enough to take the load. Now about your connector, since you haven't included a picture or description, there are various options. I have seen these used on battery cables that needed a quick disconnect.http://www.allbatterysalesandservice.com/browse.cfm/2,743.html
