Looking for advice from you folks that have purchased a 2nd trailer as your LQ or otherwise too large trailer is a pain to run to the vet or farrier, etc. Did you find a bumper pull satisfactory after you got use to the stability of the gooseneck? I'm inclined to buy a bumper pull stock trailer that can be used to haul anything from livestock to furniture. Interested in hearing pro's and con's of your decisions.

Thanks

The Eclipse Stock Combo is a nice one to consider, if you have to deal with COLD WEATHER transports... http://www.ddtrailersales.com/eclipse_stock_combo.aspx

I have a 2 horse BP for my 2nd trailer. I like it as it's very quick to hook up and I have found no stability problems as I pull it with my dually. My big horse rocks the heck out of it too...glad I pull it with the 1 ton :)

I had a brand new two horse BP slant load and hated it! Had it for two years (paid for too), sold it and bought a plain jane aluminum 4.5 shortwall 3-Horse GN.

The reason why I didn't like the BP was it didn't have a back tack and I had to step up into the dressing room to put the saddle away. Step up was too high for me as I'm short gal. Another reason was I didn't like the horse in the second stall riding so close to the back door. There wasn't much room between her rump and the door and was worried if we got rear-ended she'd be a goner.

I use the plain jane trailer a lot more as a day trailer than my LQ trailer so it had to be as easy to hook-up, safe horse interior with padded stalls and rubber walls, pull nice and of couse the GN had to have a roomy back tack that was easy to get the saddles from. Also, there is quite a bit of room in the last horse compartment so if I haul three horses I don't feel like the horse's rump is too close to the door.

There are some really nice BPs out there that are built as nice as GNs with all the amenities, but they tend to be very expensive and for the same money or less you can buy a nice mid-range GN trailer.

It really comes down to how often you are going to use the 2nd trailer compared to your LQ as to what ammenties you want to make your trailering easier.

I do have a 16 foot stock trailer, but my saddles and tack get so dusty that I just use it for going to the dump. It was my first trailer 20 years aog and still looks good, but not practical for me as I don't like dusty tack.

We had an 18" BP stock 3H slant combo. It hauled everything, and because it was a three horse we could balance the load and lessen the hitch weight. We pulled it with a SUV and a pick up. It hauled everything including horses; tractors, furniture, building materials etc. It had a large dressing area, and ample space behind the rear horse.

We then went with the bigger is better crowd and bought a good sized GN with a LQ. Bells and whistles were enjoyed at first, but we quickly realised it was a pain to hook up for quick trips. Fortunately we kept the BP and used it for day trips and running around.

The large trailer was very awkward to use in one of our local shows and couldn't be used. The public restrooms were a mess, and our BP trailer had no facilities. The girls didn't enjoy the day.

We then bought a used Exiss 3H GN with a "weekender" package. It has the same 18' box length as the BP. Most importantly it has a full LQ with a bathroom and shower. This trailer is our running around trailer, and the first one to use for a couple of overnights or day shows. It is extremely versatile, comfortable and unlike the steel unit it replaces, is about as maintenance free as possible.

We don't usually haul more than two horses at a time. The third stall is commonly used for storage. On the BP we bought the larger 3H because of its ability to change the load to lessen the tongue weights, which you can't accomplish with a 2H straight or slant load. We are very pleased with this smaller 3H GN.

I got a six horse H2H, a three horse slant with large DR and MT and a two horse BP with side ramp and DR.... The two horse BP gets half as many more miles on it in a year than the other two.... It's my run around do everything trailer,  hay, ATV, feed, mower, horses, etc. Only draw back to this particular trailer is that it's very tongue heavy, (tongue weight of about 900# empty) needs to be hauled with at least a 2500/250 series truck or SUV.

I am leaning toward a 3H slant load aluminum with a dressing room wall that opens as well. I don't know anything about Shadow trailers but like the setup on this one. Bee trailers has something similar in galvaneel.

My run around trailer is a 4H with a 4' SW weekender. It is set up with the solid partition on the 2nd stall so it gives me 2 box stalls for hauling mares & foals. I usually have it set up with the folding tack & saddle rack in the back and the regular divider in the back so I can haul 2 horses slanted. I usually keep the front box stall open and haul chairs, scooters, and extra "stuff" in it. This trailer is only 21' on the box and fits about anywhere I need to go. It works really well for hauling 2 mare with foals to KY and back. Yet, with the ability to pop dividers in place in just a few minutes, it reverts back to  a 4H.Having ramps on both the side and the back makes for easy loading & unloading in any order. I have tried just stock trailers and a 3H with DR but I find the current trailer fits my run around needs better than any other I have had. Plus, I just used the same trailer to haul my Artic Cat CATV in to have it serviced today! Later in the week, it will haul the Kubota diesel mower to get service.  Then haul our two mules to the trails on the weekend.

We have a large LQ trailer that we use for camping trips, then a smaller 3H GN (18' box) that we use for day trips. We've used this trailer to haul horses, hay, furniture, tools, lots of different things. My only regret is that the rear tack is solid, so no atv's, mowers, or tractors could be hauled.

I hated our 2h bumper pull that we got rid of. However, it had a ramp and removable divider that I used to haul a zero turn mower or walk behind mower, or an atv.

We have a 3 horse with living quarters for camping trips.  But we bought a 2 horse slant with back tack compartment which I love, and it has a small dressing room for all the odd stuff including hay and water.  It is easy to hook up and go.  The weather has been so wet this year, we have not been able to go camping yet!  If we had to depend on the LQ we would not be going any where to ride.  We need the barnyard to turn it around in and there is no way that could happen with all the rain.  If I could change anything about our 2 horse, it would be a straight load.  Our horses are big, mine is 16.3 hh and my husbands is a fat Paint.  My horse just does fit.  I would not haul them for 3 or 4 hours in that trailer.  We also have an older 16' stock trailer and it is also nice to hook up and go.  Only it doesn't have a dressing room or tack compartment so our saddles always rode in the back of the truck.  You never knew when it would rain.  Just do your homework, know what conviecences you want and make sure you horses have plenty of room.

We have a 12 foot short wall 4/star living quarters for home away from home trips and a Elite 4 foot short wall 3 horse for runaround trips ,one of the neat things about the elite is you can take out the center post fold up the tack room and load it with all kinds of things! We have hauled our RTV and a oldhorse drawn Hearse lawn mowers, furniture! Pretty handy little trailer!Mira

We have a 1995 Hart  2H BP for our run around trailer.  It's great!       very handy- can't even feel it behind the truck when towing.  we've used it for hauling the lawn mower, lumber, etc.      at first I'd transfer stuff and always seeemed to leave something  I'd need in the wrong trailer but finally got smart and purchaced seperate items- brushes, first aid kit, etc to keep in each trailer.
