If it's not using oil, it doesn't sound like a big deal. You might check the screen at the breather- it's inside the valve cover. If it's missing, that can cause what you are seeing.

It's the nature of the beast.... Now, why are you changing oil every 3000 miles...?? What oil are you using?

Save yourself some money, read your Cummins engine manual that came with the truck.... Cummins themselves say you can go a maximum of 15,000 miles on an oil change, provided you use oil that meet specific criteria. If you don't use oil that meet that, they recommend a maximum 7,500 change intervail.

Don't tell 'em that retento, I was going to mention that I would take their "used" oil.  Be glad to recycle it for them........after it ran another 5000 miles in my truck.

Dodge /Cummins engine with blow by is not very common.  Have you checked it for yourself to see how bad it is?  A visual check can give you alittle idea.  With the engine running remove the oil cap and pull the dip stick out a bit, you might see a little haze of smoke but it should not be pumping out like a train!  Another way is to look under the drivers side of the truck just behind the front tire and you should see about a 1" tube, again with the truck running you might see a bit of a haze but nothing more.  I have had 1 or 2 with low miles with major blow by from HARD driving and some with 300-k miles with NO blow by.

And save money on you oil changes and extend them to around 7-k or so if towing and 10-k not towing.

That "blow by" may be more noticeable in these winter months.... That's a long tube from the top of the engine down to the bottom of the crank case, alot of condensation is formed inside the valve cover and inside the slobber/blowby tube.... And, if you're just making short runs and never really building alot of heat in the engine, it will be more noticable.
