I am looking into the Champion 3500/4000w portable gen. It sells for about 300. I am wondering if anyone has owned on or uses one and if its an ok gen. Not worried about noise and cant afford a honda and refuse to pay that much. Rather buy another horse.

Looks like alot of power for $299.00 at some stores. Looks like folks love it or some hate it.

Here's the reviews from another site... http://www.cabelas.com/p-0040261522130a.shtml#customer-product-reviews

But, 68 db at 23 ft!!.... Hope you're not taking it camping with other folks.

I use one of these almost weekly... http://www.wisesales.com/YamahaEF3000iSEB.html

I use to think that too until I came into the Honda EU2000i, it is an amazing machine and doesn't use much hay... I am glad I have it now a world of difference over the low priced generators. It is like going from a Toyota pulling a gooseneck to a 2011 F450... Night and day difference and your neighbors will love you too.

I appreciate a quite generator when camping.  There is nothing worse than coming in after a long day of riding and trying to set and relax with the neighbors generator running as loud as a bulldozer.

I was camping with our high school band this weekend and one of the coaches had that generator.  He was halfway across the soccer field and it sounded like the generator was outside of my tent.  It ran everything and he said he had never had any problems with it except for people complaining about the noise.    There are aftermarket mufflers you can put on them.  http://www.google.com/search?q=generator+mufflers&sourceid=ie7&rls=com.microsoft:en-us:IE-SearchBox&ie=&oe=&rlz=1I7GZAZ_en

If you camp at any of the National Parks with a loud generator, plan on a visit...the park rangers enforce noise complaints...

I have got one, it is just noisey as all. No issues. It will get you buy until you can afford a better one.

I was using a 3500 watt w/ a briggs engine that was obnoxiously loud. We would only use it after 9 am and before 6 pm and briefly at that and no shorter than about 100ft back in the woods. I think it was right around 400 bucks when we got it a couple years ago. Just yesterday as I was looking around Craigslist, I came across a brand new in box Generac iX2000 inverter gen for $350. I jumped on it. It may not be an 1100 dollar Honda, but it's still much quieter than the other one for less money. Sending in the warranty card today :)

I'd say be patient and watch Craigslist. Yamaha and Honeywell inverter generators come up on there all the time reasonably. The honda's come up, too, but they're still around the $800 range used.
