I think I would like to put a fan in my horse area.  It is a 3 horse slant, steel, drop down front windows, two open spaces on the tail side with removeable plexigass.   There are no windows in the back doors (double doors on back).  There is no walk-through to the dressing room (yet, anyway).

There is a full door in the first stall.  There overhead vents in the ceiling.

As long as the trailer is moving, it's fine, I think.  My concern is being stopped in traffic or in slow traffic in hot weather.

I'd like to install, either pemanently or have something that is quick to put up in the horse area in such situations.

Good idea? Bad idea? 12v fan?  wired through the trailer connection?  more than one fan?

I'd also like to put a camera in there so that I can see the horses.

Thanks.

I've been wanting to do both, too.  I will also keep an eye on your replies..

I'm sure you'd have to have the fans wired through the trailer, but have no other useable information for you. 12v would be fine. I've seen them online.. google horsetrailer accessories and one on them has fans way down at the bottom. There are wired and wireless cameras that will install in your trailer. google it or check with your local autozone or pepboys or the like.

I had a fan installed in a BP we used to have.

We had the same problem, there was sufficient airflow while scootin' down the road, but if we were stuck in traffic or otherwise stopped, it got pretty darn stuffy back there.

The trailer dealer put the fan in while the trailer was in for annual servicing. I chose one with strong, closely-set guards, and had it put in close to the ceiling on the front wall. It was adjustable so could be aimed where needed, and had an off/on switch so it didn't have to work in cool weather.

The fan gave the horses relief, and gave me peace of mind, in warm-waether towing. I think it was around 70 bucks total to put in.

I have 4 in my trailer and LOVE them. Use them all summer. They are wired to the 12 volt and have an on off switch on each fan. They have been there for gosh 6 or 7 yrs. Never been any trouble. Nancy

Do you have the switch on the fan itself, or located somewhere on the trailer?

Thanks for the responses.

Funny you should mention this, I was just talking about this this morning as an add on to the DIY LQ I am putting in right now.  I already found a wireless camera system that I will be putting in but haven't found the fans I want yet.  check out www.ranchcams.net for a good wireless camera system and its pretty affordable.  I was going to wire the fans to the 12 LQ system so if there is a problem with the tow vehicle, we still have power to keep the horses cool while we are on the side of the road.

My fan had a switch on it, but in warm weather I left it on all the time so that it started when the truck started (with the trailer hooked up of course LOL).  It wasn't hard to flick the switch anyway, even for stubby old me.

Thanks again.

I've been reading the responses and thinking about this.  I was thinking that I need for the fans to run from the truck battery even when the ignition is off (as the cigarette lighter plug in type thing does in the Ford) and now see that it also should be able to run off an auxillary battery also - so that's a better plan.

The switch location may be unimportant.

So for a 3 horse slant, how many fans?  Where should they be located and to where should they be pointed?

I had one fan in my 2H straight. It was mounted in the middle front, and was a swivel. If I were to put fans in my 3H slant, I'd install two swivel fans, front and rear hip side (to avoid damage from busy lips and teeth) and direct airflow as needed.

By swivel I mean that the fan could be aimed wherever; didn't have the oscillating kind.

We have fans in our 3 horse trailer.  Each fan has a switch but we put a main switch in so all three can be turned on or off at one locations so you do not have to try and reach in through a window etc if you happen to have the hosres loaded and then decide to turn the fans on or off.  You can still turn then on or off individually if you want.

fans are about 40 bucks.

I bought some from Walmart for 9.99 each, looks like the ones this website shows for 39.95.  Mine are black in color.  I just added another switch at the rear post under my load light switch and turn the on and off from there with no problems.  Simple 12v hook up.
