Yeah it amazes me that my 2006 King Ranch cost me $40k and the new 2011 King Ranches cost $63,000.  How can a truck increase in price over 50% in 4 years?

Of course you can buy a clearance 2010 truck for  around $50k with the rebates and deals they are giving on the outgoing models. The 10 grand savings will pay for an awful lot of fuel.

Based on those prices.  Ford seems to be banking on a few things with this release.

Ford is first to market with the 2011 EPA changes.

They took the diesel engine in house and away from international.

Yea the 2010 is 0% for 60 months but it is still the same dog of an engine that killed this line from 2003 to 2010.

I am waiting to see what GMC puts out for their 2011 or if the EPA backs off for a few model years then 2014.  That will be the year I figure.

I will have to keep my 05 6.0 for a few more years to recoop all those 100 dollar deductables :)

Stopped by the local dealer last week and peeped at a new F-450, which by the way is the old F-350 "Tow Boss" truck and it had a sticker price of 67K..... And it wasn't even a "King Ranch", it was a Lariat!!! That made the 33K out the door price on a 2010 GMC 2500 SLE, 4X4, 6.0 gasser much more palatable!!!

I would not haul my horses with a new Ford F450 if it was FREE! After two years of fighting with Ford over the poor performance of my 08 450 King Ranch, I have had not one issue with the 2010 Dodge. It is my understanding that the 2010 Dodge is complyant until 2015. Stress free hauling..........who would have thought it was possible!

Paintedhorse.  There are several reasons for the increase.  Cost of steel has risen 100% in the last 24 months;  New EPA regulations for the manufacturing of vehicles; Cap in Trade policies by our wonderful government.  But most important, they think they can get it!

Ford is first to market with the 2011 EPA changes.

But back in 2007 Dodge was the first to meet 2010+ requirements for the EPA!

Good thing about the new urea injection systems these new truck have or will have is you will have something else to worry about and something else to fill up.  Think of it this way, you are at a rodeo, show or whatever you do late at night in the middle of nowhere and the little light come on telling you your urea fluid is low.  Now what do you do?  Truck goes into limp mode, and you either call Ford to pick you up or try to make it to the closest town and hope that have the fluid.

NO THANKS.

From what I've read, The DEF tank hold enough to last about oil change to oil change.  I would think that if you are planning a road trip. I'd just top it off before leaving town so I wouldn't have to worry about it on the trip. It's not like you need to fill it up every 500 miles. It's a 5000 mile between fill ups.

I know steel has increased. For home building it jumped 18% this spring.  Add to that, roofing jumped 70% this winter and lumber has hit a 4 year high. But houses are still selling for considerable less than they did 4 years ago.

I expect auto prices to increase a little each year. And I know that Ford ( and I suspect all the other truck makers) have added new features. ( for Ford they added the Exhaust Brake, the E Locker rear end,  the new command center, The hill descent, The Ford Sync sound system, the 5th Wheel/GN prep, Factory sprayed in bedliners, Air Conditioned seats,  in addition to a 6sp tranny vs the old 5sp and the new 395Hp engine vs the mine 325hp) But a 50% increase in 4 years.  Wow, I'd love to see my paycheck increase 50%.

You are correct, but we must remember there is a lot of ladies that do the driving and alot of them have no clue when the oil was changed or when it needs to be changed next therfore they will have no clue when to fill up the urea tank, (hell mine just tells me "your turn to drive the truck, it needs fuel").  I agree if you was plaining a trip this would be something to check out, but on the other hand you have to think of the worst case.  This urea mess they have come up with will also vary just like your fuel mileage does.

I like my 07.5 Dodge more and more.

Yes there is....  On the other hand there is some guys out there that have no clue either......

Mine knows how to do it and can do it herself, but I guess it is my fault since I make sure its done on the truck, tractor and her car so now she just expects me to have it done for her and have it filled up with fuel too.....

My 03 F350 DRW with 93,000 is just going to have to suffice. I have decided that when it is time for a change it will be to get rid of the farm trk and to Dually for a 3/4 ton farm trk and a med duty hauler.

The bad thing is that I stopped at a local dealer just to see of the had a 2011 to look at and the saleman claimed that there phone has been ringing off of the hook from people intrerested in the 2011's. Sounded like the wont be on the lot long.

The local dealer here, has presold everything he has on order for the 1st three months.  My sister placed an order in January because her lease was coming to an end.  Her truck was supposed to be here in April and they are telling her "Maybe Late June"   So if you didn't pre-order one several months ago, you are not getting one here locally for several months to come.

I saw a new King Ranch over at the local Tire dealer, He was putting $2000 worth of new tires on $63,000 truck some guy just bought, because he didn't like the stock tires.

Someone out there is willing to spend $63k for a truck, otherwise these would not be on the lots. (I'm not one of them)

Ford's solution to EPA regs is certainly part of the price increase, and material costs are a big issue too, let's not forget that the King Ranch package and stuff just gets more extravagant each year.

For whatever reason, Dodge has the superior technical answer to the EPA regulations question. Yet it doesn't seem like Dodge is cashing in on that, at least most buyers don't seem to know much about it.

What kind of mileage are you getting with your 2010 Dodge. I have been hearing good things about them. Thanks

I am averaging 15.5 to 18.5 with no trailer. And its getting 12.5 to 13.4 with a 4 Star 4H with weekender in it and 2 big horses. I only have 1300 miles or so on it so far so it should only get better. I figured I would wait until I had alot more miles on it before hooking it to the "big gurl". LOVE IT! LOVE IT! LOVE IT!  Plus, to my knowledge, I have yet to experience a regen cycle!

The 08 Ford F450 averaged about 7.4 pulling the same load in the same trailer. I do not miss that truck at all! Best the Ford ever got without the trailer was around 13 going downhill but averaged about 12. But it sure was pretty! (heads up, I hear it was sighted in CO)

Go ahead and hook it to the big girl. That weight will break it in right. I know when I went for the first long haul with my Exiss 12 lq/4horse it ran even better when I got home and my mileage went up. I have an 04.5 Dodge 3500 dually 2wd.
