had to replace refrig., 6 cube- 2-way dometic. Cost was $1,400.00 and over $530.00 to install. They had to take a wall out in order to get the frig. out and then of course replace the wall. It took 9.5 hours to do the wall. Just wanting some input from someone who knows whether we got 'hosed' or not. Thanks! p.s. just looked at original cost of frig, and it was $450.00, that was new in 2001.

You paid the list price for the fridge. Without any shipping costs from the Internet, the price is ~$1000. 9.5 hours to replace a wall panel is excessive. It's a good fridge and you should be able to enjoy it for some time. While you're on your next trip, you'll be glad you have one that works so well.

That might not be as excessive as one might think. We've seen some floorplans where the actual wall has to come out. Not a panel, but an entire wall structure. And you're working with materials that aren't likely in production anymore so one must act very carefully so that everything (even down to the trim sometimes) can be reused. And all of this care to protect your initial investment takes time. Now that it has all been taken care of sucessfully, enjoy the new fridge!

Can they just replace the cooling unit anymore? Years ago (atleast it seems to me) You could get an exchange cooling unit. Pull the fridge out into the living area, Remove the cooling unit on the back and reinstall. If you took more than 2 hours to do the whole job you were slow. But like I said thats been a few years ago. Just curious..

It was going to cost us $900.00 dollars approximately to repair the unit. Now that does not sound so bad, when you can save $1,100.00! Also, they did have to take out the wall that has the bathroom door in it. The old unit used ammonia to do the cooling, no compressor. I don't know about the new one.

I feel your pain I just replaced mine It's only a 2.7cu and it was $900 with no install fees. The cooling unit was half the cost and only had a year warranty. I replaced the whole unit and it came with a 3yr warranty...Plus there was something else that was wrong with it..I also added a cooling fan to help with air flow....
