Which is better to have.. 7 tall or 7.5 tall. How much does it effect your gas mileage?? I have short horses but a tall husband. Well 6' 2 is not really tall but when you stand in the shower it seems like you are. So any pros or cons to the two different sizes??

Extra height won't make a significant difference in fuel. But you will appreciate it in the LQ, especially if you do not have a dropped nose over the gooseneck (bed area). Your hubby may still be very close though to the ceiling when sitting in bed with the 7.5 depending on the matress thickness; with the 7 foot he will not be able to sit up in bed.

And if you are ordering a LQ, 8 wide is recommend for space usability.

Won't make much difference in mpg.  ( Hay pods, Awning , and all the other stuff hanging off will make as much or more of a difference)

Get the 7'6" if you can.  Especially if you plan to sleep in the gooseneck.

Also the 7'6" allows you hang you HiTies up higher.  Most trailers have some sort of radius on the roof.  So your HiTie won't be all the way to the 7'6" mark.  Chances are on a 7' trailer, they will be 6'6" or so after the radius curve.  My geldings are all 16hh.  So I wanted the extra height to get the HiTie above their heads.

Pony tammy is only half right about this: with a 7 footer,YOU won't be able to sit up,either.You'll have to: lie down and slither or scoot your way into bed,and,scoot your way out,horizontally.We had one of those,a nice Platinum.Getting in/out of the bed was a nightmare,getting it made up dang near impossible.We had to trade it.We really hated it,but,we didn't do our homework prior to buying.

And,she is completely right about the 8' width.Get both,7.5 tall,8 wide.You won't be sorry. 

We have two 7' trailers with LQs. I used to be 5'11", now I'm 5' 9 1/2". I could and can sit up unimpeded in both, and exit with few gymnastics. I think a great deal of the goose area height issues, are determined by the type and thickness of your mattress. There are height difference within the trailer manufacturers, but I have two different brands and they both are within an inch of being equal.

A 7' trailer is a good height, a 7 1/2' is better. It's only slightly heavier, tracks the same, and if you want to sell it, is a valuable option.

Just my humble opinion, it makes a difference. Having pulled virtually identical trailers with a PSD on the same routes and the same load otherwise, the 7'6" caused me a touch over a 1 MPG drop, or about 10% . Now, I'd still get 7'6" tall if it is a LQ, or in a non-LQ if my horse needed it. But do realize that it makes a difference. Not an aero engineer, but I suspect that with the nose being right up next to the cab it is pushing "fresher" air. By the time you get to the A/C & hayrack it is so turbulent it doesn't really matter. Just my .02$ The cattle folks are dropping many of theirs from 6'6" to 6' for the aero benefits.

Several things cause "drag" which decreases your mileage. The overall size of the frontal area is one. The larger the forward face of your trailer, the larger the amount of resistance it will cause. The shape of the nose is also relevant, the more aerodynamic it is, the less resistance it will offer. Parasitic drag is caused by all the vents, A/C units, hay racks etc.

Bottom line, a lower, narrower trailer with a tapered nose is more aerodynamic than a wide, high, flat shape with many items attached to the outside.

Ok so now you have me worried about the horse trailer hitting the truck.. I do ride endurance/ctr so I am not on paved roads but are you talking about washed out roads with ravines. I never thought that the trailer would twist itself down and smack the bedrails. I apparenty have the dropped nose. What is the typical height between the nose of the trailer and the bed rail??

I am going to go ahead and get the 7'6 if there is that little of a difference in drag it will not break the bank. Now I might break a few tree limbs with the hayrack on top..
