When hogtownboss gets on line he can tell you what's available, and what is the most beneficial mod for the money.

Your brave sole to put chip in that..I've seen alot of chevy's have problems with chips...another thing is don't let your dealer catch you with it in if you still have warrenty.

GM has a way of identifying if you have chipped your Duramax...and they will deny your warranty if there turns out to be a problem with a chipped engine...

I am guessing it will be a diesel? Just depends on what you are actually wanting to get out of it.... On my Dodge with the DPF crap on it, I just bought a complete Kit from H&S which includes an XRT tuner, dpf removal and have gained alot of power on the 60hp setting, no more fuel robbing regin mode, no more dirty oil after a couple of hours and raised my fuel mileage. The only draw back is having to spend an hour to reinstall the dpf crap to take the truck back for warranty work.

For a quick and easy upgrade I would check out the EDGE products or TS performance, both are simple plug in modules that can be removed in a matter of mins. for warranty work.  And to date, I have never had a dealer find out it has been adjusted, as long as you remove it before you take it in and DO NOT install the stickers on your truck!  99% of the chips, modules or programers on the market now do not leave a footprint in the ecm on the trucks.

I would improve the air intake first off and this is about a $250.00 deal and WILL NOT VOID you warranty.  I used K&N on a few trucks with good luck, but now started using the S&B intake kit and seem to like it better, it is not a open filter like K&N so it does not suck in hot air from the engine while driving.

Sorry so long, just giving my opinion and what has worked for myself.

New TSB issued by Dodge that on 09s if experiencing a NO START/tow in that the ECM will LOCK when a aftermarket download is introduced into the system. It has been discussed on the same forum that its a good chance that the OTHER manufactures are also heading into that same direction and feature.States that replacement ECMs for 08s will also contain this feature.I'm sure the aftermarket crowed is trying to figure out how to get around this.As the very OLD saying goes"You play.YOU pay".I'd leave well enough alone.Besides I bet there's not much out there for 09s in the way of performance boxes or downloads. The gasser crowed keeps asking WHEN for 09s.

The talk about voided warranty is just that,it has to be proved that the upgrades caused he problems. Therefor if the product is not on the truck and no signs left on the truck, the warranty will cover it. I have done 3 2009 Dodge 3500 and 4500 C/C's so far with no issues at all on 2 and the 3rd one kept throwing a boost code so we removed the kit, sent it to Dodge for warranty work, got it back and reinstalled the complete kit with no issues from Dodge or the product.

I have an 02 Duaramax I put and Edge Juice with Attitude on and a 4" AFE Exhaust system, I love it, well worth the money, empty I gained MPG and Towing the power increase is very nice. It's a lot in how you drive your truck too. I run Mine on setting 5 when I'm empty all the time but don't have my foot on the floor. In my opinion chips and or programmers are a great way to gain power and MPG's without harming your truck as long as you use your head. I've had very good luck with my Edge and would recommend it to anyone.

When I started reading that thread I thought to myself STOCK truck(yea right) as there is ALWAYS TWO sides of a story.I have read MANY threads concerning ALL THREE (Dodge/Ford/GM) about blown engines and warranty. They all go down/sound the same way. Then the INTAKE/EXHAUST and PYRO gauge appear!(about the 12th page) Stock truck, yea right.Same deal, thread after thread for years I have read.Plus someone at the DEALER had to REPORT that it had PERFORMANCE ITEMS as the REP doesn't have ESP.I bet there was a BOX removed before that truck got towed in.In fact on some threads I have read if the owner posted a lot in the past it showed said truck with a BOX/CHIP or DOWNLOAD when they were hollering STOCK and another member of the FORUMN said BUT back when YOU said it had SUCH AND SUCH.I'm sure a few might have really NOT had a performance tune but for the MOST part all the ones I have EVER read did! I have read that there is a REPORT that was done that 90% of the FAILED diesel engines(except Ford 6.0s) had some sort of performance tune and THAT was WHY the manufactures comes down so hard on this subject. As the OLD saying goes(started back in 1994 on the Turbo Diesel Registry forum.'YOU PLAY YOU PAY" Anyway thats my take on the subject.I will  also say that there is a BIG issue with Bosch injectors also that does need attention drawn to THEM.If it wasn't for the environment and the CLEAN AIR ACT engines like the 7.3 Powerstrokes and 12 valve Cummins would still be used that were highly dependable and LOTS more user friendly(not as powerful). The electronically controlled engines need more dependable injectors.Technology has not gotten there yet.Annyway there is ALWAYS two sides to it as there is in many situations.

Plan on one thing.  If you Play YOU PAY!!!!! So, if you can't afford to put a new engine in it or be able to rebuild it yourself. Don't Play. Here is the issue. These new trucks are super sensitive in the fueling area. One mishap and you could loose your engine very quickly. The EGT's these trucks run are super high compaired to the old ones. Yes, they have made improvements on the engine to handle it, etc. This was all due to tighter Gov. clean air act mumbo jumbo. In 50 miles you can destroy an engine. Read about it all the time.

I have also read this story many times. One after another. One story I remember of a guy having all kind of issues. Then, the melted piston thread started. He had an Edge Juice with attitude. Little did he know they have a known issue with the Pyro not reporting the EGT correctly. It was reading 1300 deg when it was actually 1500 deg. Over time, this cooked his engine. My point is this.... Educate yourself with months of reading and monitoring the appropriate forum. Then make an educated decision. Not just someone's opinion.
