I will tell you what I have done, and what happens and then tell me what you think could be wrong. The brakes on my trailer are not working, but everything else is.
I have a plug in the box of my truck that I use, small one (which is what the trailer came with)
I just put the adapter on it and plugged it into the stock plug, and it LOCKS up the brakes on the trailer, as it is wired different then my trailer. But the brakes do work.
I just can't get them to work in the little plug in my truck? So what could be wrong? Maybe the connection from the little plug into the main part? But everything else works fine, other then the brakes from that plug?

I guess I worded something wrong. The only reason I put an adaptor on it to see if the manufactur plug worked, was to see if it was the trailer that wasn't working or the truck.
It is something wrong with the little plug. I have no intentions to use the bigger plug, nor do I want to. Everything in the little plug works but the brakes.

I would bet that Houndog is correct. Your trailer plug is connecting the brake circuit to the truck's constant power. You have a couple of choices. Change the wiring at the plug or change the wiring at the trailer. The trailer will have a junction box or panel to route the wiring from the cord to the various places on the trailer.

Oh my, I guess I SUCK at explaining things?
I have TWO plugs on my truck. The factory one (BIG) and the one we installed seven years ago, to fit the trailer (small).
Everything WORKED fine with the small plug for the last seven years. Now the brakes are not working, just the brakes, everything else is working fine.
So today, I put the adapter on it, and plugged it into the big factory plug on the truck, to see what happened. As should, the trailer brakes locked up, as it has two wires crossed. So the brakes on the trailer are working.
So it is something in the small plug that is not working. That is what I want fixed. I don't need a new plug, I don't want to plug it into the factory one on the truck, cord is not long enough and will pull out, hence why we put the small one in the bed to MATCH the trailer.

Well then a pin/wire in the LITTLE plug is loose or a pin/wire in the trailer connector is loose.Test light, screwdriver, take apart and investigate OR pull it to a trailer repair shop and let them do such while you wait etc.
