I am wondering if I can convert a stall in the horse trailer area into a bathroom in our living quarters?  We have a trailer with a 4 ft SW living quarters and want to use the 4th horse stall to be our bathroom.  We also will need a door inbetween these two.  Is this something that can be done?  And if so, any idea on what it might cost?

Mom, a cheaper solution to the bulk head door might be adding a cam latch to the escape door (if you have one) or to the back door on your trailer. The cam latch will allow you to close the door behind you. When we had a small LQ we had a porta potty in the horse compartment along with a shower. Not as handy as having a bulk head door, but a lot cheaper.

The shower was an RV style unit that set flush into the bulk head wall. Had a RV shower pan with a drain in the floor that had PVC plumbing run under the trailer and then capped toward the edge of the exterior trailer wall. We could either have the shower water flow into a 5 gallon bucket to be dumped away from camp or just attach a hose to the hose cap and run a hose away from the trailer.

You can do a really first class bathroom addition with a few tools a little know-how. If you are handy, or have a friend who can help, you can do the job yourself for a few hundred bucks, certaintly less than a thousand. Installing a pass-through door into the living quarter is a relatively simple job. You can either install a residential door or go to a junk yard and get an RV door from a wrecked unit. Most of your other materials and fixtures can also be obtained from salvage outlets. There is no reason for this to be a complicated or expensive job.
