I have a 4 horse aluminum gooseneck that I need to purchase a truck for. I am looking at a new 2500 HD 6.0L and an F-350 V10. Do I go 1 ton or is 3/4 sufficient? They both have very similiar weight ratings. I realize diesel is probably the way to go but is not affordable at the moment. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!!

I had a gas 2500 HD and to me it was a dog. It was a solid truck but it needed a diesel motor. The power just wasn't there. I'm not familiar with the Fords....A friend of mine has a 250 v10 and it pulls her 3 horse 8ft sw just fine.

The f350 ford V10,the 2500 6.0 would be totally inadequate for a 4 horse Gn. trailer.

No more 8.1 in the 2500-3500 as of the 2007 models. They didn't sell enough of them to justify cleaning up their emissions. They still use them in the heavier Kodiac chassis. They can be retrofitted with LP Gas or Compressed Natural Gas. You can still get the 8.1 in the 4500-8500 G.M. chassis. 325 hp, 450 Ft lb in the 4500-5500. 295 hp 440 ft lb in the 6500-8500 single axle chassis. If you want a 3/4 or 1 ton, GM pickup truck with a 8.1 with the Allison automatic, then you'll have to settle on a 2001-2006 model used truck.
