I was wondering if anyone could tell me how to remove tree sap from a horse's hair? I got my gelding out this am to go riding and he had obviously scratched an itch and gotten sap all over his neck. I'm sure he won't mind a bath since it's been so hot, but I don't know what to use to get it out. Suggestions? Thanks.

Our local Dollar store has a product called "Awesome Orange". It works great on hair, skin and even dishes. It easily cuts most tree saps, especially the Pine sap that is difficult to remove. It's mild, quick acting, and even smells good.

WD40. It is amazing! Just spray it on and the sap wipes right out. I wouldn't have believed it until I saw a horse with her forelock completely matted with sap and it wiped right out. When I had horses in paddocks with trees, I always had a can in my tack box. By the way, it works great to take off any kind of sticky stuff around the house. You'll need to shampoo afterwards, because it's not a pleasant smell and may not be great for leaving on the skin. I've never had a horse react to it, though.
