I personally would not run a generator in an enclosed space like a tack room even with ventilation. i have my generator mounted on my haypod walkway, that way all fumes and noises are above the trailer.

Onan has wrote in their new equipment warranty that they will not warranty a genset's installed on the roof. Wouldn't think it would be too far off from a belly mounted genset in an RV. My Onan brings in fresh air and vents the heat out the bottom. Welcome to the board.

Several friends have “RV” style generators mounted in the tack compartment WITH THE EXHAUST PIPED OUTSIDE several inches past the trailer wall and seem to do fine. Two of them use a 110 volt fan to blow air across the trailer to remove the heat from under the trailer and let the generator run cooler.

In my humble opinion, the only generator that should be run in a tackroom is one designed to permenantly mount there- like an Onan or Generac. They discharge a tremendous amount of heat and exhaust through the floor as they are designed to do. Portable gensets need to be sitting in the clear with ample air movement around them.

I've been involved with generators installed in the rear tack area, on moveable drawer type runners. The generator is pulled outside when it's in use, and pushed inside when it's not. Heavy duty slides support a base which the generator sits on, allowing easy removal if the space is needed for alternate items. The drawer runners and base are affixed to the trailer floor, and only take up about 1 1/2" of space.

So then everything in your tack compartment is exposed to weather and thieves, while your generator is running? We unfortunately go to a lot of events where we have to lock everything up. I have my generator chained in the back of my truck, unhook the truck and move it a short distance away from my trailer. I'm just a worry wart.

Advantages: No fumes or noise under the LQ part of the trailer. Entire unit is quickly stowed and secured out of sight and weather. Generator can be easily set in place or completely removed without having to lift it in or out of truck bed. By removing the generator, the original floor space can be utilized for other gear if the gen is not needed. No ducting or permanent installation is needed. It is a very workable situation for using a portable generator.

Our Generac is vented out the bottom... never had issues. It has been better than our last, an Onan. But it was set up right in it's own compartment under the tack.
