I was messing around with horse hauling configurations on my 2002 Sundowner and removed the telescoping divider to make more of a 'stock horse' experience. I pounded out the spring to get it out and of course can't figure a way to get that spring back on. Any suggestions?

Tom... The safest way for you, is to take to a Sundowner dealer and pay to have it re-installed.

Warning: The following is not advice.

I looked at my Sundowner divider.  If I had to reinstall the spring, I would use two pieces of pipe.  1. a 6 inch length of 1/4 and a 18 inch length of 1/2.  Buy it at Home Depot or plumbing supply

I would assemble the spring and its pin on the divider.  Then I would slip the 1/4 pipe on to the plain end of the spring, with the 1/2 pipe completely over the 1/4 pipe.  (I'm not sure that a 1/4 pipe alone will be able to set the spring without bending)

Using the pipes to hold the spring back, put the divider back on its hinges.  (You'll need a extra pair of hands) Open the drop-down for more room to work.  Then carefully release the spring against the wall of the trailer.

Let us know if you decide to do this yourself.  I'd like to know how this worked to install the spring too.

Take the divider off. Then install the pin and spring. Use a ratchet strap hooked to the end of the far end of the divider to run along the divider to the spring. Hook to spring. By tightening strap, you can put enough tension on spring to reinstall divider in the open position. Then release strap's tension, and all is back to normal. In the future, ratchet the spring up before removing the divider and just leave tension on it. Works well.
