Does anybody pull with a truck like this? We have always had an F350 dually to pull our big LQ trailer but want to downsize since we are getting a smaller trailer (no LQ). Hoping for better gas mileage (even tho we get decent gas mileage in the 2000 dually). Found one at a bargain price  (of course) and son would like something smaller to take to college since we have gotten the smaller trailer.

Just was wondering how good the gas mileage is on these????

Thanks!!

What year is the Duramax?

We had a 2001 and had the fuel injectors replaced twice and the front hubs three times. The fuel injectors are a known issue, thus Chevy increased the warranty for the injectors to 200,000 miles.

Even though we had these issues, the truck was a blast to drive. Very good response and the Allison Tranny is fantastic on twisty hilly curvey roads. We pulled a 4 foot short wall LQ 3-horse loaded with tack and camping stuff with no problems. Averaged around 14 MPG. I used it as a daily driver too until Diesel got out of hand -Sold it to get a small car. I sure do miss the smooth ride and heated seats in the winter.

I've had 3 Duramax trucks.  2  2500, and now a 3500.  I swear by them.

Love my D-max too.  Just got back from taking two horses to Laramie,WY.  pulled 4 horse featherlite with a small dressing room.  We got 12.6 mpg, running 70 -75 there and back.  Truck just turned over 20,000 miles on the way home.  It's far from being broke in.   This is my 2nd D-Max.

Love my Duramax!  The allison tranny is exceptionally smooth and quiet.  The truck has all the power I need and more.  Used to haul 14 to 15 thousand pounds of bird seed from Northern Colorado to eastern New Mexico with never a glitch.  Braking is good too.

The one we are looking at is a 2005 and has about 120,000 miles on it-(highway miles, mostly) and we can get it for $10,000 or less. Guy that my husband knows is feeling the crunch as he is a trim carpenter and there are not many houses going up at this time. It is getting bad around here for the painters, carpenters etc.... because of the economy. Thankfully commercial construction is keeping us afloat.

I can't say much about the mileage on the 2500, but I have had three 3500 D-Maxes and love them. Mileage is good for a dually. Running empty gets 15-16, running loaded depends on the load and how I am driving. Been as low as 9 and as high as 12.5. All depends on your driving. Had an 02 that had injector problems and had them replaced once with no issues after that. The 05 I had, I had no problems out of at all. Without question, if I was looking, it would be the D-Max!

We have a 2003 GMC 2500 Duramax, and love it. It gets GREAT mileage-- 20+ mpg w/o trailer, 18 mpg with a 3H GN.
