Hi...I need some help please. I have a 93' Damon Challenger, I got
this RV last spring. This is not only my first RV...but it's my first
vehicle with dully tires. On Saturday, I had a blow out. It was my
passenger inner dully tire.
My tires were Michelin 7.50 R16 XPB RIB Radial X Load D
I called everywhere and could not find those tires. I need all six !!
The old tires are the original tires ...RV only has about 30,000
miles on it.
Anywho...I called Camping World...they called Michelin...my original
size tires are no longer made. They suggested a Michelin XT235 8516
Load E ...but I was told these tires were 1.5 inches wider.
Then they called Goodyear, and they suggested Goodyear LT235 85R16.. a
tire named Master Associate (?) ....which are also wider, but both
Goodyear and Camping World ...told me they would work. Camping World
is about 90+ miles ago.
I called my local Goodyear dealer (35 miles away), I asked them...they
suggested Goodyear LT235 85R16 a tire named Wrangler, they also stated
the tire was wider, but that it would work.
One of my questions is this, why are these tires the same
number....but different names?
I went with the local Goodyear dealer and had them install six
Goodyear LT235 85R16 Wrangler tires. Since I was at work, my sweet
hubby was kind enough to drive the RV to the local dealer. When I
got home I went to the barn to check out the new tires. The new tires
are touching!
At the top between the dullies....there is "maybe" one inch space. At
the bottom...there is a little bit of tire belly and the bellies are
touching.
Now...I am not a tire pro, have never owned a dully, but I would think
that this is not a good thing....to have the dully tires touching?
Thoughts...please.
When I called the local Goodyear dealer, they told me that it would
not be a problem to have a little bit of the tire belly touching.

Static load measures 9.3" on a 235 and 8.5" on a 215 tire. You need a set of 215/85R16 lrE's.
Take it back and make them take that set of tires back. They should have never let that truck leave the yard with the duals touching. Have them install a set of 215/85R16 load range E tires. If it's a GM chassis,then that's the biggest tire you can run without them touching. The 215 size is more the same width as the old 7.50 Michelin tire. Your old 7.50x16's had a load rating of less than 2000#, and a tread with of about 5", so the 215's will work. Those old Michelins were tall and narrow!!

If you get Goodyear Wrangler,be sure to look them over,and check them frequently.
We have had two on our dually that have had defects.One was tread separation and the other that we have just noticed is a bulge on the outside wall of the tire.
Dully Tire ???
