That isn't exactly the best combination of year/transmission for Dodge. The 1999 trucks seems to have a higher risk of failure of the injection pump than other model years with the 24v engine.

Also, don't expect the transmission to last much longer than 100,000 miles and thats if the truck is stock. If it has been chipped or anything the transmission is probably on its last leg.

However, if you decide to get this truck I would recommend first checking to see if its a "53" block. Google it, you'll find plenty of information. After the purchase you will want to upgrade your lift pump to prolong the life of the injection pump. And I would run the transmission until it fell out and then replace it with an aftermarket unit.

By the way, this post isn't meant to rag on Dodge. I've owned 4 Dodge diesels of various years 1995-2007 since I was 16. I wouldn't own anything but.

Tranny(47re), Lift Pump (LP), 53 block, Vp44 (Injection pump) are some issues to look at.  Best place to ask this question is at www.dieseltruckresource.com- it's a dodge site. It will hold up you just need to get educated on what to look for.

I had a 96 auto 355 rear and sold it at 81000.  It now has 130000 and he rags it big time and cannot tear it up.  Including racing.  I want another Dodge and my 6.0 is ok, but lacking.

That 96 is a completely different truck! It has the same transmission (I think. Not real big on autos) but it has the 12v engine. Best engine ever put into production. You didn't have to worry about injection pumps, lift pumps, or cracking blocks back then. As long as the truck held up around that engine you would be golden for a run at all 9's on the odometer like many other 12v trucks have.
