We have a 4 yr old horse that I found down the other day. We finally got him up thinking it was colic and he was stiff on all 4 legs. Had the vet out but couldnt pin point what it was. Doing a little better but very tender on feet. Could it be from white snake root? Very concerned.

With a few exception like larkspur most toxic plants are not palatable and grow on overgrazed pastures or distrubed soils. I don't know if this is your pasture or not. What did the vet do? What are the vidal signs of the horse? Many things can cause laminitis so the most important part for treatment is history in the last 48 hours. Degeneration is already underway by the time clinical signs are noticed and even a few hours of delay can mean the difference between success and failure. stay on top of it

I agree with huntseat -- get another equine vet out. Make them draw blood and have a lab work up done. I would do this ASAP.
If the horse has indeed been poisoned by shavings or ingesting something, you need to find out what and treat accordingly right away. Toxemic poisoning can lead to possible permanent, internal damage to the kidneys, liver, etc.
