We have a mounted Onan in the mangers of our LQ trailer. The factory installed exhaust runs out the bottom of the manager area. I would like to move it to run thru the roof. Would leave the clean air intake as is.
Reasons are that we tie horses up on that side when shadey where the thru the floor exhaust is and that can't be good. Also, a lot of the parking lots have dry grass that the exhaust is blowing out upon and I am afraid of starting a fire. I don't know if these have an arrestor or not, but sure don't what to take a chance.
Has anyone ever done this? I would get double wall exhaust pipe and would have to do some fabrication to the generator cover, the top of the manger and up thru the roof. Would probably put a exhaust cap on of some type also. Any experiences would be great. Thanks!

If I'm going to all that trouble, I'd consider just moving the genset to the roof, and thus gain a manger's worth of storage I can reach from the ground.

Thanks everyone. Looks like more of an issue than what I thought. Did not think about the AC and vents sucking in the CM with a roof exhaust exit. Don't really want a side pipe going up the side. Have no hay rack to mount it on the roof nor no need for one.
Might just be able to make the horizontial pipe longer to come out the back of the trailer instead of the side.

I read your post this morning and thought about what you’re trying to do. Running the exhaust on the outside of the trailer is not a good idea. Running it on the inside it a little better but the double wall exhaust pipe will have to be made in fact it will all be custom. I agree will your idea to run it out the back. Do not use flex pipe. The newer Onan's have spark arrestors built into the muffler. Another idea is to relocate the genset to the roof. If you decide to go that route give me a ring and I'll share my experience.

I relocated my gen set a Honda 4500 with remote start to the top of the hay rack. I reinforced the rack from outside and inside with alum. sq. tubing to handle the 300 lb weight. Its quiet, no vibration and exhaust is away from everything, both the horses anyone in the lq area. win win all the way... trailer is a 2000 exiss 3h with10 ft short wall, full l/q

Not sure but I think making the exhaust pipe longer could cause other issues with trying to push exhaust that many more feet and it possibly causing back pressure. Personally I would trust factory install over modifying something.
