I am currently truckless and will need to purchase something in the next year. I am really excited about the new F150 ecoboost but am a bit worried that my trailer is at the top end of the capability. I currently have a new 2+1 GN with a GVW of 10,500. It would be rare that I would have 3 horses in the trailer but would be doing long trips (2-5 hours one way) a few times a month during the show season and would need to contend with the New England hills. The truck is rated to 11,300. Any thoughts or experience with this engine/transmission/braking system? Think it would be a good match for what I am looking to do? I am most interested in the truck as the purchase price new is what I was thinking of spending on a used 3/4 ton (diesel) and the mileage is good enough that I might not feel the need for a second more efficient commuting vehicle.

I think you should look at a larger truck...F150 appears to be right on the edge of NOT doing the job...

Thanks! Yes, after additional research, I'm back to saving for a 3/4 diesel.

The F150 can be had with a HD payload package (GVWR 8200lbs) essentially a light duty 3/4 ton, more or less perfect for the use you are describing.  It has a carrying capacity comparable to most 3/4 ton diesels, the GCWR still limited by the engine power and similar to 3/4 ton gas models.  With mpg ratings my Dmax only dreams of, plenty of power at low rpms with the Ecoboost's turbo and running on gas.........I am watching this new Ford very closely as my Dmax has yet to impress me.
