Anybody have any experience with Calico trailers? They seem very reasonably priced and the aero nose looks kind of cool, but there arent any dealers in my area to compare against other steel trailers (Trails West).
Just looking for a good steel usin' trailer mostly for local Jr Rodeo/Ropin's. Your feedback is appreciated.

We had a Calico we ordered new in 99. That was during the time period of poor painting, which they readily admit. Search back a couple of monthes and you will find where the owner of Calico admits it and explains their new paint and procedure. I have been thinking of getting a two horse bumper pull as a run around trailer and have looked at the new Calico's and would not hesitate to get one now. Good trailer for the price.
If you are thining of a gooseneck with the bullet nose, really reconsider that if you are planning on sleeping in the goose. It really narrows down and you will want your feet at the front of the trailer. Pain in a$$ getting in and out.

I bought 2010 Calico 2H slant with tack room about a month and a half ago. This is my first horse trailer and while I have towing experience with boats, I am not very experienced with horse hauling. I've used the trailer 5 times and have been very happy with it so far. Everything seems very sturdy and the trailer pulls great. My only issue( and this is a very small one) is the slant gate latch sort of rattles in the closure. Also, if I haul with the slant gate tied back so the horse can have the whole area, the snap hook bangs against the wall. It isn't causing any damage, I just wanted to minimize the noise for the horse. Maybe I worry too much. LOL Anyway, I just use a rag and kind of shove it between the rattle-y parts. It's low tech but it seems to work. Other than that I am over-the-moon happy with it. For the price, I really don't think it can be beat.

No I can't...the snap hook is what holds the slant gate against the wall when I want the horse area to be open. There is a snap hook attached to the gate and two links of chain attached to the wall. The snap hook clips to the chain to hold the gate back. There is a little bit of play in it that allows the hook to bang. I don't know that I am using the correct terminology so I probably am not explaining it well. All in all though, it is trivial compared to how happy I am with the trailer.

I looked over the ranch king and calico trailers. I think they are a very good value for the money. The ranch king is a stouter made trailer and comes things like brakes on both axles, l.e.d. lights and heavier upright posts,etc.

Yes,I understand.I have had them before.I didn't know if you had a double end snap that you might could remove,or not.Try putting one of them on your links and it might hold it somewhat tighter.

Wow, Duckman. Here you go making sense with a logical suggestion! LOL I hadn't even thought of that. I'm really not sure if comes out or not but I will check when I go out to the barn tomorrow.
