What can you tell me about riding in Virginia? We are looking at relocating around the Richmond area. I know they have national forest a short drive away - how populated is it? We have 4 dogs that love to go riding with us - is it feasible to take them riding in that area or do you run into too many other people? Can you ride year around in that area? I've lived in the midwest and west and I don't know anything about the Virginia area - please educate me about horse activities. Thanks!

I can tell you there is some great riding in the Mt Rogers national reqreation area. We have been there once and are going again this July. We are staying at the Grayson Highlands VA state park that borders the req area. This is the highest area in VA and there are wild ponies up in the mountains and some fantastic views. In my opinion, you should be able to ride year round in most area of VA, they get some cold weather and snow though.
