Wondering if anyone out there has an opinion as to the best tires to use on both horse trailer and other trailers. I understand there is a difference between running LT truck tires and specific trailer tires. there is a lot of talk on the other forums out there on dissapointed people getting little mileage out of there tires. I am looking to run 235/85/16 load range F (for the side wall flex). for my stock trailers and flat bed trailer. Called the manufacture about there suggestion and had none. actually they use a truck tire becuase the got a good deal on them. Any thoughts ?

I personally run a LT235/85R16 on everything I can. Load range E, or G. I've had trailers with the ST235/85R16 in a E or F rated for a lot of weight, and had issues. Replaced with a LT235/85R16 "E" that's only rated at 3,042# and ran the wheels off of the trailer. There seems to be more "fluff" in a LT tire's ratings, and maybe the ST are right there? Or maybe the hight and shifting cargo of a horse trailer overloads the ST's softer sidewalls? Or don't know. I do know I've been very happy with the LT

Whenever possible I always replace ST tires with LT's. Longer life spans, higher speed ratings, better durability and less UV damage. Very pleased with the changes

I always use LT tires, the ST tires are such low quality and all made in China, I have had pretty good luck with coopers in a 16" tire, however my first choice is to upgrade to a 17" tire and wheel, the tires are a bit more expensive than a quality 16" tirebut they last 2-3x's as long. and they have far more weight capacity. my tires on my horse trailer are YOKOHAMA RY023 235/75R17.5 H BSW and they have a load rating of 6005 lbs per tire. if you are pressed for space you can get it in a 215/75r17.5 that gives you 4800 lbs per tire. Also that is one of the few tires that are 17.5 that are speed rated for 75 mph.
