Location: Mundare Alberta | Hello,Since I haven't used my trailer for over a year while I was working out a dispute with the dealer who sold me a crappy truck, my horse trailer sat unused in the back yard. Now there is a ramp and two top half doors at the back of the trailer. The too half doors now barely open as they are so stiff. Can anyone suggest what I can do to fix this? The pins in both of the door hiinges looked rusty but the trailer is only three years old. Is there something I can spray in the door hinges to lubricate it? Would wd40 do the truck?Thank you,Neilsrc=HTTP://www.horsetrailerworld.com/forum/emoticons/icon_t2.gif border=0> |

Location: Vermont | You didn't state the model of the trailer...some door hinges have zerk fittings so grease to be added |

Location: western PA | If the hinges don't have zerk fittings, the hinge pins can be lubricated with Kroil penetrating oil. Other products that also work well are automotive transmission fluids, brake fluids, and many rattle can offerings such as Blaster. Once the hinges are free again, monthly relubrications will maintain their functionality. Make sure that these fluids don't get on any painted areas, which will cause damage to the finishes. |

Location: Southern Minnesota | A good way to loosen the rust is to pour a can of Coke on them first and let it sit for a couple of hours. It will eat the rust away. Be sure to rinse away all the excess, then you can lubricate as stated above. |
