Our first visit to Flying R was last fall and we have our reservations for this spring. The camp is first rate; clean campground, large SAFE stalls, and bedding. They will clean your stalls for $5 a day - loved that. Clean, modern bathhouse, store for forgotten items, sodas, tack, etc. Electric and water hookups. The covered wood stalls are close to your campsite and the sites are nicely spaced, many sit back in the trees and are shaded. You can have your campfire right next to your rig with your horses close by. That is how we like to camp. Lots of water faucets and hoses to easily water or rinse your horses after a ride. The trails were great. Several water crossings that are fun but not too deep with excellent footing. The trails are easy to challenging. Some friends who endurance ride with their arabs went on the Jesse James (I think that was the one) trail and they said it was a good challenge. But the other trails had some nice climbs, beautiful views, and the trails were really well maintained. You can leave Flying R land and go into the Mark Twain trail system. There was a nice mix of wooded trails for walking/climbing and then more open trails where you could trot/gait/canter. Some open pastures too. We really had a good time and can highly recommend Flying R. It was a six hour haul for us and definitely worth it. |
