Location: Los Angeles,ca | Hi all. We just had a class 3 6500lb (10,000 with WD) Draw Tite hitch installed on our truck. The mount & ball are Reese rated to 6,000 lbs. We will be pulling a 16 foot Circle J Cruiser stock trailer with 4 horses... is this safe? I am thinking we will be at or maybe slightly over the 6k lbs. The sticker with the weight specs is faded on the trailer... so I cannot read how much the trailer weighs. It is just an empty stock trailer. The owner told me it's 1200 lbs... which doesn't sound right to me. |

Location: high desert, CA. | I would think you are at or above the rating. You can take the trailer to any truck scale and they can tell you what it weighs. I wonder if 4 horses, and the trailer is really going to be able to traverse the bumps of the off road. |

Location: Illinois | I have an old steel 16' Bison bumper pull. It weighs around 2500lbs empty, with a gross rating of 7000lbs on two 3500lb axles. Which means technically I could put 4500 lbs in it. Depending on the weight of your horses you are either OK, or a bit over your hitches rated capabilities without the weight distribution, but not the trailer's. If I were to put more then two horses in mine I would use a weight distributing hitch, but since I rarely put more then one in mine, I just use a regular bar and ball. Checked out the Circle J site and it seems their new stock trailers do have 5200lb axles, but that would bring your trailer to a gross (including the trailer weight) of 10,400lbs. Your best bet is to contact Circle J with the year and model that you are looking at and I'm sure they will tell you all you need to know about that model. http://circlejtrailers.com/index.html

Take it to a scale and weigh it... |
