2010 Townsmand Model Trailer
What's new for 2010, Learn more about technology advancements
What is Galvalite? Since 1999, our Galvaneal horse trailer is our oldest series trailer. It has been proven over the years as the most reliable, safest, durable and dependable trailer on the road today. In times past, we used a steel frame and covered the exterior of the trailer with no rust Galvaneal sheets. The trailer had to go thru an extensive cleaning process, each seam caulked, then the entire trailer primed and painted.
Today, Galvalite is the new age of manufacturing with the latest advances in material and technologies and is a step above Galvaneal, AND the competition. We begin with a GatorShield zinc coated steel frame. We take the extra step of coating all of our frames, even steel tubing's, on the inside as well as the outside. We feel that things you can't see are as important over time as things you can see. The advantage to the zinc coated steel frame is that it doesn't corrode like conventional steel and is lighter in weight. The weight savings is achieved because in the four part process, the heat treatment to the steel tempers the metal and adds strength. This additional strength allows us to use lighter weight materials compared to regular steel trailers, yet achieve the same strength. In addition, our zinc coated product doesn't require any painting which contributes to our effort to product an environmentally friendly trailer. Final result, a super strong, lightweight steel frame that requires no painting which surrounds your horse to provide the greatest safety to your horse during transit.
After the zinc coated steel frame is constructed, we bolt on the all aluminum insulated roof. The insulated roof is great for climate control to the horse and is very safe in that it is double walled in case your horse rears up and hits his head. The all aluminum roof is used because the roof isn't an area that requires super strong structural support. Since aluminum weighs about 1/3 less than steel, but also has 1/3 the strength, it makes sense to use a lighter weight material in an area that isn't structurally protecting your horse.
For the flooring of the trailer, we use 2x8" pressure treated pine. In our all aluminum series, we offer an interlocking aluminum floor. However, we find that the heat transfer from the road is significantly higher in an aluminum floor versus a wood floor. The wood provides as a good insulator between the road and the horse. It also serves as a dampener to noise, resulting in a quieter ride for the horse compared to the interlocking aluminum floor. Wood floors require less maintenance over the years and the acid from the horses urine will not oxidize a hole in the floor like it will on the all aluminum series. Plus when you wash out the trailer, wood floors allow for water to easily run out between the cracks and keep your floor dry.
After the flooring, we install the interior dividers for your horse. For this we have chosen to use aluminum. Aluminum is great for this application because it will not rust and doesn't require to be painted. It is also light weight which makes removal of the horse dividers very easy for other applications. We use T-6 Aircraft grade aluminum which carries a high tensile strength and prevents ripping or tearing of the divider to insure safety to you and your horse.
For the exterior doors, aluminum is great for this application as well because we can use aluminum hinges which do not corrode. We also insulate our doors and double wall. This results in a very quite ride for your horse, a light weight door for you as the operator, and a product that will last with minimal maintenance.
Lastly, we feel that a product is only as strong as the weakest link. Many manufacturers build very strong frame trailers out of steel or aluminum, yet on the exterior "skin", they will use a weak material, typically thin aluminum sheets which will easily rip or tear causing a safety issue and costly to repair. On our Galvalite trailer, we give you the extra security of knowing your horse is surrounded by a lightweight durable material that we call Galvalite. It is a sturdy steel sheet in the middle, coated in a two part zinc process, then primed and painted in a controlled paint environment. When we receive the sheets, they are pre-painted and look identical to our aluminum white pre-painted sheets. To the naked eye, you can't tell the difference. But the difference is in the strength. Although the sheets weigh about the same as the aluminum sheets, the strength difference is 3 times greater on Galvalite. The end result, a light weight material, super strong yet providing the best in durability against corrosion and safety for your horse. We fasten our Galvalite sheets to the zinc coated up rights using the latest bonding technology that doesn't require any screws or fasteners. This allows for maximum expansion and contraction from temperature changes in various climates and reduces exterior sheet warpage that is typical on trailers secured by screws or rivets. This method is superior to galvaneal built trailers in that on Galvalite, there aren't any seams that will rust or any caulking or sealants to deteriorate over time. Plus, since the inside of our Galvalite tubing's are zinc coated, you will not get rust like on a conventional steel frame trailer where the inside tubing's are unprotected.
